I invite you to travel with me to a magical dreamy and tiny world, the wonderful world of flower art photography. Learn to create dreamy artistic flower portraits, the soft romantic look is created in camera. Post processing will be limited to basics like adjusting contrast and levels.

Looking trough a lens changes the world. Our own eyes have their limitations, the camera sees differently. The perspectives and the DOF are totally different than what we normally experience. We just have to pick up a camera to discover this new way of seeing. I love to explore this wonderful universe and to discover the real beauty of the flowers around us. It would be nice if you would join me on this journey, together we can discover a magical world beyond your imagination.

Create Dreamy artistic flower portraits in camera

For this tutorial we are going to learn to create artistic flower portraits. We are going step by step, learning how to create an in camera dreamy and artistic look. Alongside the technical aspects like light, composition and camera settings, we’ll also going to discus the creative thought that goes into creating these portraits. The images that we are going to create are characterized by a shallow depth of field. By using selective focus, the depth of field is limited and the blur associated with this creates a dreamy and picturesque even paint-like picture.

A very important segment of the tutorial is the techniques section, in which I invite you to look over my shoulder as I create my flower portraits. I’ll even give you a look through my viewfinder, so you can see what I see when I compose my frames. Looking through a camera is quite different from seeing with your own eyes. The DOF, the sharpness, the focal point and the framing are totally different.

Many people engage in flower photography. Flowers are an appealing subject and it is relatively easy to shoot a pretty good snapshot. But if you really want to capture the essence of these natural jewels. You will need a total different approach. You will have to learn how to create a flower picture instead of just shooting a bad copy of it. Instead of being a passive observer you have to become a creator and make the picture.

The only limiting factor in your flower photography is a little bit of creative thought, technique and practice. Creating this kind of images isn’t as difficult as you might think. I will help you to train the skills you need.

Wether you are a beginner or a more advanced flower photographer I can show you some techniques and different ways to shoot flowers.

We’ll also discuss the post processing of these images, although with these techniques you will only need minor post production. The real magic will happen while shooting, not in post processing. The images coming straight out of your camera will already have an artistic dreamy and painterly feel.
